Santema Rites Held Monday


Funeral services for Mrs. John Santema of Pease were held Monday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m. from the Pease Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Ronald Slater officiating. Interment was in the Pease cemetery. Casket bearers were Alfred Magnuson, John Otten, Fred Strating, George Schreur, Henry Rensenbrink and Henry Veruink.


Bertha Byker was born in the Netherlands on Sept 16, 1900 to Harry and Grace Byker. She came to this country with her parents in 1907 and located at Atwood Michigan. She later moved to Pease where she was united in marriage to John Santema on November 24, 1925. To this marriage was born 1 daughter and 3 sons. The family continued to live in the Pease community. In 1953 Mr. Santema passed away and in December of 1962 Mrs. Santema moved to the village of Pease where she has since lived. She passed away suddenly at her home Thursday, May 7, 1970 at the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 21 days.


Mrs. Santema is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Willard Mosley of Princeton, 3 sons, Sydney of Cokato; Harris and John H. of Milaca. Also 11 grandchildren 5 brothers, Joe, Ike, Bill, John and Henry Byker.


Mrs. Santema was a faithful and devoted member of the Pease Christian Reformed Church.
