Charlotte Kennedy, St. Joseph, Mo. // 1923 - 2009

Charlotte Bowers Kennedy, 85, St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at a local health care center.

Charlotte was born on Oct. 26, 1923, in St. Joseph.

She was a 1940 graduate of Central High School and of St. Joseph Junior College in 1942.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

She was very athletic and enjoyed tennis, golfing swimming and boating. She also enjoyed reading, traveling and was an accomplished pianist.

She married Robert Bowers in September, 1942. They moved to San Antonio, Texas. She worked as Secretary to the Editor of the "San Antonio Light" newspaper for 15 years. After that, she and her husband owned and operated Charlotte's Cacti Floral Shoppe. Robert died in September, 1996.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lottie (Finney) Dallam; sister, Marietta Dallam; brother-in-law, Joe Mayfield; and nephew, Matt Kirkpatrick.

Charlotte married William Kennedy in September, 1997 in New Braunfels, Texas, and he survives her.

Charlotte is also survived by her brother, Roy Dallam (Bernadette), Lee's Summit, Mo.; sister, Janet Mayfield-Thurlow (Lawrence), St. Joseph; nieces, Charlotte Colgan-May, Mona Meade (Larry), Vickie Hile (Bob), Kim Malloy (Gerry); nephews, Cody Mayfield (Connie); and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Kennedy has been cremated under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.

Memorial Service: 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 33rd & Penn in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Heartland Health Hands of Hope Hospice or Trinity Presbyterian Church.
