DOROTHY JEAN DALLAM BROOKS

Dorothy J. Brooks, 74, Lee's Summit, MO passed away peacefully at John Knox Care Center from kidney failure. Funeral services will be Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Dorothy was born April 2, 1932 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ira Dallam and Mildred Anne Day. She attended Frances Willard Grade School, graduated from Westport High School in 1949 and attended KC Junior College. She worked for Alcohol, Tobacco and Tax Dept. of the U. S. Treasury. She married Loren Brooks November 6, 1953 and moved to Indianapolis, IN., in 1955 when Loren was transferred with General Motors. Dorothy belonged to the Indianapolis, IN chapter of Sigma Delta Tau Sorority and the Women's Optimists Club. Soon after Loren retired in 1986 they returned to Missouri and lived in Lee's Summit; in 2000 they moved to a townhouse in John Knox Village. She was a member of the Lee's Summit United Methodist Church. Dorothy loved to shop for and send greeting cards and always remembered family and friends on birthdays, anniversaries and any occasion. This was her way of keeping in touch with everyone. She loved going out to eat; one of her favorite meals was cheeseburgers, fries and diet coke. For a dessert she preferred vanilla ice cream with Hershey syrup or sherbet and cookies. She was preceded in death by her father, Ira Dallam and her mother, Anne Arrasmith Sutton, her identical twin sister Helen Dallam in 1964, and sister Eleanor Davis in 2005. Her mother died April 1, 2006 eleven days before her 100th birthday. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years Loren, sister Patricia McAtee, identical twin to Eleanor Davis, and husband Jim, Kansas City, MO, brother Lawrence Dallam and wife Mary, Bloomington, MN, Eleanor's husband George Davis, Mission, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
